Supernatural - "Scar" - Season 14 Episode 3 Review

I’m not even going to lie, I was a little suspicious going into this episode. It seemed a little too easy for Michael to up and leave Dean. But, once other world Kaia confirmed Michael had evacuated Dean’s vessel, I realized maybe for once things were that simple. I am pretty impressed with the lack of severe emo-ness going on this season. I have become accustomed to at least one of the guys falling victim to emotional turmoil at the start of each season, but this season it hasn’t been as bad.

I mean, yes, Sam was mopey without Dean, but it didn’t get too out of hand as it has in the past. So that was a nice change of pace. Because those of you familiar with my reviews probably have noticed, I am not a big fan of over-emotional Sam. Castiel hasn’t gotten too worked up either. Jack has been tempted, but as we seen in this episode, he changed his mind.

I like watching Jack as his character develops. He still has that whole naive, new-to-the-world nephilim vibe, but he is maturing. It was nice to see him catch himself before running away again. I wonder what it was about Lora and the curse she had over her that drew him in.

Perhaps we will never know. But, still, I am grateful we won’t have another season of one of the main characters having a melt down and taking off. It is quite concerning that he is sick now though. It makes me wonder how long he is going to keep that a secret. I mean, he was raised by Cas, Dean, and Sam. So it’s not like he is going to be forthcoming with such a big revelation. But, who knows, he may surprise me.

It was nice to see Jody make an appearance in this episode. Considering her connection to Kaia, it seemed appropriate that she would have assisted when the reveal of other-world Kaia was made to the guys. I do however worry about her since now she is weakened by the broken arm she received from that vampire. Let’s hope that doesn’t mean something bigger won’t happen later in the season regarding her girls. I mean, for the most part, they are pretty self-sufficient, but with Jody injured I just feel like something will happen she won’t be able to help them with. Jody has been in the game longer though, so who knows.

I am kind of excited to see where other-world Kaia will fit in now that she kind of made friends with the guys. I’m sure she is still going to want to be solo in her mission to destroy Michael, but it never seems to work out that way in this show. So I’m sure an alliance will be made between her and the guys. I can’t lie, I enjoyed watching her call Dean out. He always tries to play the tough guy role and not confront his demons, so it’s good when someone presents them to him.

I have a feeling his opening up to Sam was just the beginning in what we are going to see from Dean this season. There is no way he could have been used as a vessel by other-world Michael and not have some severe trauma associated it with it. Seeing him admit it was a good start though. I’m just hoping it doesn’t turn into some long drawn out emotional thing, as we have a tendency to see in the show.

As always, the season seemed to start a little slow, but I am glad to see it’s starting to pick up the pace once again. I was slightly concerned I wasn’t going to be as invested this season. Luckily, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Supernatural - "Devil's Bargain" - Season 13 - Episode 13 Review

By Kaylynn Kasandra

Source: The CW

Every season, somewhere around the mid season break, I am left questioning if this will be the season the show lets me down. It’s quite hard to come up with new and interesting storylines for each season that will keep longtime viewers not only engaged, but excited. I am happy to say, I have yet to be let down. And this season is no different.

I really like the idea of the Angels going dark, falling in succession. We have seen the Winchesters battle Lucifer in the past, but not quite like this. This time, there seems to be so much more at stake. Not only are they still needing to get to Jack before Lucifer can, they need to get to their mom as well. I’m not sure they really understand what all will be standing in their way to make that possible either. Other reality Michael is pretty angry! Even Lucifer knows he’s going to be a major pain in the ass. We never got to see all of the time he spent with Michael while he was in the other world. And judging by the state we see he had Mary in, we know he likes to draw things out. So it should be quite the battle of the minds when they all go head to head.

I must say, it’s quite fun to see one of the actors working side by side with their wife. In this episode we got to see Anael, played by Danneel Ackles. It was nice to see her in that role, I think she really owned it. She sells Anael’s badass, unappreciated angel vibe very well. It’s always nice to see Lucifer’s sensitive side, and Anael brought that out as well. I have to admit, I really like them as a team. I feel disloyal for liking them, but they work well together. I mean, did you see how easy it was for them to break free from the guys? Not only that, but it didn’t take them long to take over Heaven either. Ask and you shall receive, right?

I can only wonder if any of the angels will try to double cross them once they get their wings. It wouldn’t really surprise me if Anael is the one to do that. I mean, she is quite like Lucifer, and that’s what he would do. She’s a really great manipulator. I couldn’t help but notice that she seemed hurt when she found out Lucifer was the one who has drained, then killed Cupid and the others. It leaves me wondering, did she have a personal connection with those angels? Maybe even just one? It would make sense that she would want to get close to Lucifer to get revenge if that’s the case. I could be wrong, she could just be in it for her own personal gain. Or worse, she may really like Lucifer.

The most shocking of all from this episode wasn’t the fact that Ketch was honest with the guys. Nor was it the guys being saved by Ketch. No, the most shocking to me was seeing that Mr.Colonel Sanders creepy demon dude, has a pet. And not a hellhound like most guys of his type. Nope, he had to one up all the creeps we have met and have an Archangel!!! What the what!!! Archangel Gabriel was bound and beaten, mouth sewn shut in his own personal prison! That was not something I expected. I don’t think Ketch expected it either. So now we know Asmodeus has just what he needs to defeat Lucifer, even with him at full power. I would say that’s a good thing, but he creeps me out way more than Lucifer ever has. I hope Ketch is able to get the Archangel sword away from him, and quickly. And let’s hope Gabriel gets released before he’s forced into being a pawn in the epic battle brewing.

I have to say, I thought the Darkness was intense. But, something is telling me this battle that’s coming is going to be way, way, worse. I hope we aren’t going to be left with a clinghanger, though I’m sure we will be. And I hope Jack has a plan, because the guys are really going to need it!

Supernatural - "Various and Sundry Villains" - Season 13 Episode 12 Review

By Kaylynn Kasandra

Source: The CW

Finally! We are seeing the dysfunctional band together again. Well, partially anyways. It was nice to see the two witch Sisters lead to the return of one of my favorite Supernatural villains: Rowena!  It was also nice to see the softer, funny side to Dean while under the love spell as well. I enjoy when the actors get to break character a bit within the show and their goofy side shows through. It makes you see how much they really do enjoy making the show, thus making it even more enjoyable. And I have to say, of all the shows I watch, this one stands out the most in that regard.

Source: The CW

As always, I was very excited to see Castiel again. Even if he was at the side of Lucifer in Angel jail. I always love when they work together, and it wasn’t surprising to see them work together to escape. After all, desperate times call for desperate measures and Cas needed to play the game to be able to get free. He knew exactly what to say to trigger Lucifer. He had brought up so many things about Jack he knew Lucifer would be upset about, but the one thing I personally wish he had said, he didn’t. He missed out on a major opportunity to mention that Jack looks way more like him than he does Lucifer. I can’t be the only one who thinks that, right? I was just glad to see that Castiel parted ways with Lucifer once out. I just hope him stabbing him isn’t going to come back to hurt him later. If Castiel had really learned from his mistakes he wouldn’t have given Lucifer reason for revenge. Am I right?

Source: The CW

Speaking of revenge, it’s beyond clear that that is what is truly on Rowena’s mind. Considering her reaction when the guys had told her that her one and only child was dead, I think she is pulling out the big guns. I could be wrong, but I would imagine that it’s the spell she cast using the page she conned Sam out of. She had claimed she had put a spell on the book to follow it. But, she had done that before she found out Crowley was dead. My assumption is, she already knew about Crowley’s death. It would make sense being a witch she had some sort of spell over her son. She had to have had been aware somehow when he met his demise.

Source: The CW

I don’t doubt that she fears Lucifer, but she is Rowena. She is a master manipulator, and survivor. I highly doubt that she is really going to go up against Lucifer if she has a choice. It would make more sense that she would increase her power for more selfish reasons. Like, maybe bringing Crowley back? It could be a coincidence that the Witch girls were trying to bring their mom back using the book. But, my hunch was that that was Rowena’s plan the whole time. She knew that would fail, she would still get the book, and off them anyways. It is also possible she planned to do that in front of the Winchesters to seem like she had their back. Crowley learned his schemes from somewhere.

I also think we see some other foreshadowing with Sam at the end of this episode. I think that he will have to go up against this newer, stronger, Rowena. I really want to trust that she won’t blame the Winchesters for her son’s sacrifice, but I can’t be sure.

I just hope that the next episode we can address some of the loose ends left for us at the start of this season. I mean, what happen to the other reality Archangel Michael? Are Mary and Jack okay? I really need to know. Let’s hope we will get answers soon.
